DERMAL FILLERS

Frequently Asked Questions

Are dermal fillers safe?
Yes. We use only products with a proven safety record. Hyaluronic acid (HA) is a substance that occurs naturally in the skin cells; thus, there is no risk of allergic reactions. Even people with food sensitivities can receive these fillers safely. The brands of dermal fillers we use are available in more than 90 countries. They have been used as an injectable cosmetic treatment for over two decades with an excellent safety record.

Can I have fillers in more than one area at once?

Yes! Many clients opt for several treatments at the same time.

How long does the treatment take?
A single area can be as quick as 15 minutes, wheresas the 8 point facelift you should allow closer to one hour. It is dependent upon the area(s) to be treated.

What do I need to do before my treatment?

Your practitioner will provide you with precare before your appointment date.

If you are prone to coldsores, it is advisable to undertake a course of antivirals prior to any lip needling treatments.

How soon will i see results and how long will they last?
Results are immediate, but as the filler settles under the skin the full effect is seen in the coming days. Please allow 2 weeks for full healing. The longevity of dermal fillers can vary depending on several factors, including the type of filler used, the area treated, individual metabolism, and lifestyle factors. Generally, most dermal fillers can last anywhere from 6 months to 2 years.

Does it hurt?
The level of discomfort experienced during dermal filler injections can vary from person to person. However, most patients report minimal pain or discomfort during the procedure. Before the treatment, a topical numbing cream or local anaesthetic may be applied to the treatment area to enhance comfort. Additionally, many dermal fillers contain lidocaine, a numbing agent, which can further minimise any potential discomfort.

What are the risks associated with this treatment?
All dermal filler treatments have the risk of temporary bruising around the injection site, swollen facial features during the initial healing period and infection at injection site. The side effects and risks associated with dermal fillers will be discussed with the practitioner at consultation.

How long will recovery take?
Downtime after a dermal filler treatment is generally minimal, and most individuals can resume their regular activities immediately afterwards. Some temporary side effects may be expected, for instance, redness, swelling, bruising, or tenderness at the injection site. However, these typically subside within a few days. In some cases, these effects may take up to a week to completely resolve. To help facilitate a smooth recovery, it’s recommended to follow post-treatment instructions provided by your healthcare professional, which may include avoiding strenuous exercise, excessive sun exposure, and certain medications or supplements that can increase the risk of bruising. It’s important to note that individual recovery experiences may vary, so it’s best to consult your Pretty in Ink Cosmetics practitioner for personalised guidance based on your treatment.

What happens to the dermal filler as results fade?
Over time, the filler gradually breaks down and is naturally absorbed by the body.

Who should avoid dermal filler treatment?
Certain individuals, such as pregnant or breastfeeding women, people with specific medical conditions, and those with allergies to the filler’s components, should avoid dermal filler treatments.

What happens at the appointment?

Every appointment begins with a thorough consultation, and completion of a medical questionnaire. We will answer any questions you may have, and we fully inform you of any potential risks and complications. We discuss realistic expectations so both parties are satisfied with the outcome. Once you have made an informed decision, you will sign a consent form and photographs will be taken as part of the medical record.
